Maybelline Volum' Express One By One Mascara Review

I had first reviewed this mascara in our second Mascara Review Video Series (Click here to watch that review) and this is my follow-up review after using the product more.

First of all, in the initial review, I gave this mascara a 6/10 rating. After experimenting more with it, I'm ammending my review to a 7/10 for 2 reasons:

First, I found this mascara is great at holding a curl. After curling my eyelashes, I applied this mascara and my lashes stayed curled throughout the day. Some mascaras actually ruin the curl but this one didn't so that's definitely a plus for me!

Secondly, I found that this mascara is great for definition. It does help to coat your individual lashes therefore defining them better. I've lately been using this mascara to first define my lashes and even lengthen them and then I put a more volumizing mascara on top of that and it's been working great for me.

In the initial review, I said that the mascara made it look like I had less lashes. I think this happens when you use the mascara the first few times because the formula was more wet then and for me, it made the finer lashes stick together. It didn't clump my lashes but did make it appear as if I had less lashes.
Now that the formula has dried a bit, I've liked it better. It's not as sticky so it is able to coat the individual lashes without making the finer ones stick together.

Overall, this is a good mascara. I think those with naturally thick lashes will really enjoy this mascara as it will give their lashes definition, length and decent volume and definitely hold the curl.

For those of us with thinner lashes, I would suggest layering this mascara with a more volumizing formula. This formula just isn't volumizing enough for me and really, I'm not sure why Maybelline includes it in their Volum'Express line. I just feel that their other mascaras in the Volum'Express line had more volumizing formulas than this one. To me, this is more a lengthening, defining mascara.

So far, I'd say that I would repurchase this mascara. It doesn't clump, the formula doesn't flake on me and I like the blackness of the formula. It's a mascara I can use for more toned-down everyday looks and I know it will give me length, definition, decent volume and keep the curl in my lashes and there's no trick to the application as I find the wand easy to use.
However, to get more volume, especially for eye looks that require it, I'll definitely be layering with a more volumizing formula. And that's another good quality of this mascara, I find the formula does not mess with other formulas so you can layer it easily with other mascaras.
